Common Sense Self Defence and Assault Prevention
Course Duration - 8 Hours (2 x 4 hr sessions)


Description of Syllabus

The objectives of this course are to develop a program of personal safety in the home or the workplace. To develop skills of incident avoidance and personal safety on private and public transport; on the streets and in crowded areas.

Aim of Syllabus

To develop the skills and knowledge necessary for individuals to use the method of avoidance, prevention and self defence in a competent and responsible manner, using legally defensible techniques.

Course Content

Module 1

  • Visual Reflexes - Principles of awareness include: - Situational analysis, environmental analysis and indications of attack.
  • Body Language - Use of our body language in assault prevention.
  • Defensive Positioning - Defensive distancing to protect our personal space.
  • Balance Retention Skills

Module 2

  • Eliminate Negative Conditioning
  • Use of Surprise and Other Defence Assets
  • How to Use Fear as a Positive Energy Source
  • Methods to Increase Reaction Time
  • Alternative Response Options - Negotiation, Escape and Evasion.

Module 3

  • Techniques of Defence
  • Target Awareness Training
  • Natural Body Weapons
  • Body Contact Assaults
  • Defence From Negative Positions while seated or on the ground.
  • Multi-Attack Situations

Module 4

  • Weapon Defences
  • Attack With Both Blunt and Edged Weapons

Module 5

  • Follow up Techniques
  • Being a Witness
  • Control and Restraint Techniques
  • Pain Compliance and Motor Dysfunction Techniques

Please Note: - This course contains basic control and restraint techniques. A separate course is offered for security personnel in controlling and restraining tactics.
